AN astonishing collection of designer jewellery, handbags and luxury goods amassed by a York woman and costing about £1 million will go under the hammer this week.

Muriel Hodgson, a former partner of collapsed York property investment company Challenor Property Developments, is believed to have spent close to £1million in shops in York, Harrogate, London and New York when she bought a collection of designer handbags, costing up to £10,000, and diamonds by names ranging from Cartier to Tiffany & Co.

The collection is being auctioned to pay creditors under the instruction of Charles Ranby-Gorwood, of CRG Insolvency & Recovery, as part of proceedures facing Mrs Hodgson, who was declared bankrupt following Challenor’s collapse.

The collection of 60 handbags includes evening bags, purses and wallets by designers ranging from Hermes and Lana Marks to Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Judith Leiber and Chanel.
